Here to prevent injury, harm and drowning on Pukehina Beach

Pukehina Beach is a popular beach that attracts swimmers, surfers and fishermen from throughout the local Bay of Plenty area, and visitors to the area. 

Pukehina Surf Rescue exists to protect beachgoers from harm.

Patrol hours

  Voluntary Patrol

Sunday patrols only: 10am - 2pm
(16 November to 14 December 2025)

Weekend patrols:
Saturday patrols: 11am to 6pm
Sunday patrols: 10am to 5pm
(20 December 2025 to 11 January 2026)

Weekend patrols: Change of hours Saturday patrols: 11am to 5pm
Sunday patrols: 10am to 4pm
(17 January to 1 March 2026)

Regional Patrol: 10am to 5pm             (22 December 2025 to 16 January 2026) 

Remember to always swim between the patrol flags. 

In an emergency, dial 111. 

When to contact a Lifeguard

You should contact a Lifeguard when:

  • Someone appears to be struggling in the water
  • Someone is missing on the beach / in the water
  • There is a potential hazard on the beach (e.g. glass) 
  • A shark is spotted

We can retrieve stuck kontikis along Pukehina Beach. To do this for you, we ask for a $100 donation towards our equipment.
